Ad Hoc Network

An Ad Hoc network is a local area network that can easily be set up in no time whatsoever which makes it possible for computers and devices to communicate directly with each within a limited range. It can be to share data and internet connection between wireless devices.

Setting up Ad Hoc Network:

The first step is to use the search box of the start menu and type “wireless”. Once you have done this you will see a list below and select“Manage Wireless Networks”.

Or go to Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections

When the new window comes up. navigate to the “Add” button and Double click on it.

After that you choose option called “Create an ad hoc network”.

Immediately you will see a window showing a message telling you about Ad Hoc network. In that window click on “Next”.

The next window requires you to give a name to the network you are about to create, the type of security settings you want to use and the security key.  Check the “Save Network” option.

After filling it you wait a while for the network to be created.

A message that the network has been created successfully will and the network ready for use.

The next thing you need to is to verify the Ad Hoc network by clicking on the wireless icon on the task bar. it will show the name of the network and along with a message “Waiting for users”.

On the client computer when you click on the wireless connection icon you can see the name of the Ad-hoc network you just created and also an option “connect”. Click on the option and to connect with the network.

Now on the Host machine you will be from you will see that the client computer is connected to your Ad Hoc network.

The Ad Hoc network has been created and you should be able to transfer and share files.

Sharing Internet with other devices

You want to share your internet connection with other wifi devices then go to the host’s wireless adapter icon and right click on it. Then go to “properties” and click the  “Sharing” tab and select “Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s Internet connection“.

You can click the “Settings” option if you need to select the network services the Client device can access.

The task is done. Now you can share documents and the Internet connection with other Computers and devices.

Use USB Flash Drive as RAM for Your Computer without any Software

Materials Needed:

A computer with Window 7, it can be desktop or a laptop

A USB Flash Drive

Steps Involved:
Close all the windows that are actually running on your desktop. Insert the USB flash drive into the Computer’s Port. After that, an Auto play window will pop up on the screen.

Focus on the General tab and move your mouse to Speed up my system option and click on it.
Focus the prepared Boost tab under the Flash propel Properties window.

Now you will glimpse three choices viz. one says do not use this Device, second Dedicate this device to Ready increase, and the third Use this apparatus.

 If you choose the first choice, you will have the prepared Boost feature handicapped.

If you select the second choice, you can use the additional or maximum space available on the Flash Drive. If you conclude on the third choice, you can adjust the available space of the flash you desire by adjusting the slider. When done, Click Apply button and then OK to go out of the Properties window. 

 Your drive is now ready to work as RAM in your computer.

If you don't want to use Ready increase, then you can reformat the drive to use it as RAM. Insert the flash into the system, close any Auto play note that pop up and browse to My Computer. Click to open  the Removable device and delete all its content. Then, close the window and right click on the drive's icon and select Rename. Give a name of your alternative to easily identify it next time.
Exit all the windows. Go to My Computer again right click to choose Properties from the drop down choices.

focus on the Advanced tab and then click the Settings button under the heading presentation. Go to Advanced again and then bang on the Change button.

In the Virtual Memory window, choose the USB flash drive by selecting the title you gave in previous step and it will display its current space available and the accessible size. Under Custom dimensions, it will display the primary and maximum dimensions. Now subtract 5MB from the accessible dimensions and go in that number into both the cartons viz. primary and greatest. For demonstration, if you see 2000MB as the propel dimensions, then enter 1995MB (exactly 5MB less than the original dimensions) in both the cartons. Click on the OK button to go out the Virtual Memory window.

Note:
· You should be logged in as an administrator or at least have the admin privileges to perform these operations.
· The drive should have at least 2GB free space so as to make it perform well.
· If you cannot find the Auto play choice, Go to my computer and Right click on the Removable Device and select Autoplay.
